Piano

Lessons incorporate Suzuki principles including developing a good tone, strong technique, reading proficiency, harmonic understanding, and aural skills.  The Suzuki method tends to be more successful for younger children than traditional methods.  If the child is already 8 years of age, reading is incorporated more actively in the piece learning process.

Improvisation

Improvisation is learning how to speak and converse in music in real time. I use duet playing as a fundamental part of learning to improvise as well as understanding harmonic structures. Improvisation is also a great tool to eliminate the fear of making mistakes and perfectionism. Some of my techniques are evident in the publication here.

Chamber Music Coaching

Coaching chamber music is one of my favorite ways of teaching music.  Students grow as individuals and learn what communication, trust, and teamwork are.  I am also happy to help students prepare for competitions, auditions, and other events.

Flute

Flute lessons are taught through solo repertoire, duets, exercises, long tones, scales, and etudes.  I studied flute for many years and performed at various events before focusing on piano in graduate school. With steady practice, progress is inevitable!

Music Theory

For those who are more interested in an intellectual approach, practical lessons in Music Theory are available. It can be fun to discover how and why music is created as it is. My secondary emphasis for my DMA was Music Theory and I’d be happy to share what I know.

French

Salut, mes amis! Language is closely related to music. Understanding another culture helps one’s musical interpretation. I can teach music lessons in French and will also be happy to assist with acquiring the skill of speaking and writing French. Qu’est-ce que t’en pense?
